Nigerian Content

The purpose of this policy is to promote in-country participation arising from marine survey activities within the oil and gas sector for the overall benefit of the Nigerian economy.


GEMS Nigeria are fully aware of the Nigerian Content Directives of the Federal Government and confirm our support to deliberately increase the level of value creation in-country by giving first priority to the employment and training of Nigerians in line with project work scope, ensuring systematic development of indigenous capacities and capabilities to achieve more than Nigeria oil and gas industry content development (NOGICD) requirements for services, supplies and human capacity development where appropriate for a successful project campaign without comprising quality, health, safety and environmental standards/requirements.

The management has a continuing commitment to:

  • Invest in training and mentorship programs mostly on-the-job training and mentoring to bridge the gaps between business needs and local capabilities.
  • Ensuring selection for employment, promotion, training, mentoring or any other benefit will be on the basis of aptitude and/or ability.
  • All employees are helped and encouraged using our mentorship programs to develop their full potential and the talents and resources of the workforce will be fully utilised to maximise the efficiency of the organisation where appropriate.
  • Ensuring and supporting management of its offices in Nigeria by the Nigerian management team and domiciliation of its project management and procurement centres locally.

Testing and analysis of all soil or core samples shall be carried out in-country in accordance with the requirements of the workscope and industry standards.

A framework for developing and achieving the Nigeria Content Plan (NCP) includes identifying discrete aspects of the scope of work, assessing the Nigerian Content potential for each, and identifying what can be executed in Nigerian using in-country support services.

GEMS Nigerian Content policy is all embracing and so is our commitment not only because it makes good business sense, but it will assist in sustainable development of indigenous capacities and capabilities of local suppliers, and increase employment opportunities.

GEMS Nigeria management at any specific work location is responsible for ensuring implementation of this policy.

The policy and plan will be reviewed periodically giving due consideration to any changes in legislation or guidelines.
