In most countries a comprehensive legal framework exists that requires companies to manage their HSE issues in such a way that anticipates, prevents and limits occupational injury, ill health and damage to the environment.
GEMS Health, Safety and Environmental Management systems based on the widely recognised ISO management system exists to facilitate compliance with these requirements. It is based on the following widely recognised management systems:
ISO 9001:2008, Quality Management Standard.
ISO 14001:2004, Environment Management Standard.
OHSAS 18001:2007, Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series.
PAS 99:2006, Integrated Management System.
These systems can be integrated with the management of other aspects of the business in order to:
- Minimise risk to individuals and the environment.
- Improve business performance.
- Assist companies to establish a responsible image within the market place and on behalf of stakeholders.
The HSE planning process sets objectives and targets for the coming year, and defines the key activities, the deliverables and the performance measures on which compliance with the HSEMS can be evaluated.
Progress reports on the implementation of policy objectives, targets and plans targeted at continuous improvement in overall HSE performance are submitted to the corporate board meetings for review and discussion.
GEMS continues to work with hundreds of customers and partners in a variety of markets and industries throughout the world. Employing experienced, qualified personnel is key to its on-going success as is the purchase and safe upkeep of reliable, modern equipment and vessels. Vessels within the company fleet are fully compliant with the requirements of ISM and ISPS codes.
